Natural zeolite possesses significant adsorptive power and selectivity towards ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and total hardness of water. Natural zeolite shows a high affinity for the ammonia ion. It is used for the absorption of ammonium nitrogen and other toxic components. In intensive fish production, especially in indoor pools and fishponds with a poor flow, food remains and fish residues create ammonia.

Zeolite is applied to fisheries as a food additive and used as a water treatment to clear out ammonia ion that is toxic for the fish.
